Greek Island Adventure

As much as I hate flying, I gathered my strength, my husband and my passport and took 4 planes to the Greek Islands. We were meeting up with my long lost best friend…. well long lost is a little exaggerated - it had been about 3 months since I had seen her beautiful face and her amazing partner Billy as they had been trotting all over the world making everyone jealous!!

Our first week away Pete and I stayed in Crete (the largest of the Greek Islands) in the “Old Town”. It was just beautiful… anyone traveling to the Greek Islands this place is highly recommended as its a little different to Santorini and Mykonos. It has a real Italy feel to it.

Our motel was right on the harbour with plenty of restaurants and bars to wine and dine.

Pete had his 30th birthday in Crete and we had pre-booked a hike through the Samaria Gorge which is a worlds Biosphere Reserve. The hike was 17klms descending 1,250m. There is the village of Samaria inside the gorge which was abandoned in 1962 that we stopped and had a bite to eat and watched some mountain goats hopping around. Although you don’t realise whilst hiking but as many as 1000 people hike through the gorge per day.

After our long hike we had a few rest days in Crete, wondering the streets and eating the local produce. We hired a scooter and drove approximately 40mins in one direction to a beautiful winding ocean view road - the perfect scootering experience!!

After our relaxing time we jumped on a ferry to make our way to Santorini….

1. Crete

2. Santorini

Santorini

Everything you see in the pictures is real. Santorini is that Lux holiday with plenty of exploring, eating & drinking to be done. The views from any hotel are amazing. Everything is white and everywhere has like a billion stairs. If you don’t have calf muscles you will after visiting Santorini especially if you want to go down to the water.

The way back up is a little easier on the back of a donkey, although still terrifying. The four of us thought we better get the entire experience and hire a few donkeys to take us up the hill. The other three were given donkeys in the first group and I got stuck in a group by my self which I was little bummed about because I had my selfie stick out and ready to capture everyone on this ride. Well that didn’t stop my donkey from being the pack leader of BOTH GROUPS. The first group had already left and were making there way up the hill when mine decides to make it a race, It barge through not only my group but the first group also… (he wasn’t a donkey he was a race horse)!!! Needles to say the selfie stick didn’t get used.

Tips: Its to hot to drink a normal coffee, If you need your coffee fix try the Freddo its basically like a iced coffee but to make it special add baileys ;) why not your on holidays!!

Food: we enjoyed the Gyros - yum yum yum, I have recently seen these making a hit in the Australian market!
